UNIVERSAL 3D.
Will the U3D format be the ultimate interchange document for
3D models and worlds? , It looks like it will be, but we have seen
many other 3D file types in the previous years.
A lot of time passed since the beginning of file types that allow
you to communicate a 3D scene to the world. In fact most of the
existing file types are proprietary of a software brand, and most of
the cases there is no interactivity behind, just the definition of a
3D scene or object.

The first truly international format for exchange 3D scenes and
worlds was the VRML, where in addition to the definition of the
object or world allows you to define a behavior of the scene and
includes some ways of interaction with it. Since it appears in 1996
it was like the PDF of the 3d formats and it gains momentum in the
previous years, but it does not truly become a big standard and now
its almost forgotten.
Next to that arrives formats like JAVA 3d, X3D or WEB 3D and others.
But now the format that seems to become the truly standard is the
UNIVERSAL 3D, recently Adobe announces that in next acrobat version
will be implemented compatibility with U3D format.

Were ever you are, connection to a any technological device is now
possible , the world is now interconnected through the new digital
revolution, where almost everything can be connected to something.
Also a lot a new technologies made this possible in almost every were.
In essence we want to reach the information we need no matter were
we are. In this new kind of communication there are a few elements:
-The beginning of the communication: the starting device of the connection:
Pc, laptop, TabletPC,PDA, Phone, TV, other...
-Is this device also the communication device or we need an other
for this purpose? We need a phone, Bluetooth device, network card,
802.11 and others, or is embedded in the device.
-What is the medium of the communication and protocols used? Gsm,Gprs,umts,
lmds, satellite, etc...
-Elements in he middle of the communication: routers, commutation
centers and other "in the middle" devices.
There are some other devices, protocols and interfaces for trying
to "guaranty" the security of the data transmissions.
For the final purposes of the wireless communications we are in need
of miniaturization of: send and receive devices and also data processors,
Actually this technology already exists, we have the technology to
get wireless to every were and to every thing, but the field to work
in is the production cost reduction of this devices and the commercialization
to make it profitable.
The times for example were the clothes we wear get a microprocessor
and a communication device without increasing weight or size aren't
far away.

Security.
Actually there is a paradigm
in Computer security followed by the continuous technological evolution,
for example the wireless systems as they are more popular they reach
higher levels of insecurity at the same time.
Also the use of Satellite connections, optic fiber networks and other
high end technology are introducing more variables to the complex
computer security or system security formula.
Authentication
through PKI, smartcards or biometrics systems try win the battle for
the stealth of the identity through Internet and other networks.
Billions
of security attacks, or hacker related attacks around the world are
confirmed through the use of automated hacking tools, exposing millions
of servers and computers. Also the security flaws inherent to ALL
the software, most of them by human mistakes.
The
Growing wireless and Satellite market like Wi-Fi, LMDS, Bluetooth,
Wireless USB, Laptop, TabletPcs, PocketPcs and other PDAs with Internet
Wireless connections or mobile phones. Also come with inherent system
security flaws and exploits to be used by the attackers.
The
Cyber-War in this new century used by countries or crime organizations
is also a huge silent battle to be fight and the govern control of
the communications with new internet laws limiting the expansion of
the cyber world.

Nov-02 Present and Future
of the Virtual Reality.
Virtual Reality at the turn of the year 2003 has a well defined history,
and some of us have to write the future of the technology behind the
Virtual Reality and the uses of it.
Actually the term Virtual Reality is used for designing an environment
or device that "transport" us to other reality different
than the actual one, there are several hardware devices used to do
that:
- VR Head Mounted Displays ( HMDs )
- VR globes and other VR aptics
- VR suites
- Multi user VR Projection devices with or without glasses
- 3D flat panels
- High end 3D capable computer system
Also we need a VR World and software for moving the world.
The
Future must be written, but the gaming industry and the investments
in 3D visualization systems is an essential role in this future, also
the investigation of the 3D Holograms could make my term "VR
Room" a more real thing, also the growing augmented reality were
we mix part of the real world with part of the virtual world, also
olfactory systems.
